Project Overview

Up N Smoke, a cannabis dispensary based in Washington, DC, partnered with 313 Web Design to develop a modern, fast, and scalable e-commerce website tailored to their industry and regulatory needs. The project included custom design, WooCommerce integration, POS syncing, and mobile optimization — all built on WordPress.

Challenge

The client needed a platform that could:

Reflect their premium branding in a crowded dispensary market

Showcase products in a way compliant with cannabis regulations
Handle real-time inventory and online orders via Dutshi POS
Be easily managed by a non-technical team
Load quickly on mobile and meet modern SEO standards

Our Process & Tech Stack

Technical Planning & Wireframing
We mapped out the site architecture with a focus on speed, compliance, and conversion. We outlined how products, categories, and order flow would work.
WordPress + WooCommerce
We built the site using WordPress with a fully custom-designed WooCommerce theme to manage product listings, categories, and cart behavior. Custom post types were used for flexibility.
Dutshi POS Integration
We created a middleware API layer to sync products, stock levels, and orders between WooCommerce and the Dutshi POS system, ensuring up-to-date menus and smooth fulfillment.
Performance & Mobile Optimization
The theme was designed from scratch with speed in mind — using lightweight scripts, optimized images, and caching. The layout was built to perform flawlessly on mobile devices.
SEO & Scalability
Schema markup, on-page SEO, and clean URL structures were implemented to help the client rank in local cannabis-related searches in Washington, DC. The system is scalable for future locations or product expansion.
